Isaac Mouskovias is an Australian pianist, repetiteur, piano teacher, and piano technique specialist. Born in the rural city of Mildura, Isaac was privileged enough to learn under many highly qualified and nationally recognized teachers, and always had a plethora of constant performance opportunities to take part in. Growing up, Isaac studied piano under Amy Greatz, Megan Sullivan, and Catherine Hall. Isaac also studied voice and vocal pedagogy under one of Australia’s best vocal and performance experts, Laura Poulten (nee Page).

Isaac later moved to Adelaide to continue his tertiary studies, and study piano under Eleanora Sivan.

As a precocious young pianist, Isaac began working professionally as an accompanist at the age of 14 under guidance of career accompanist and teacher, Catherine Hall. Isaac discovered his love for accompaniment and ensemble work at the even younger age of 12, when he became the [unofficial] school accompanist at his high school, which was so rich in the performing arts.

At the age of 15, Isaac began taking on voice and piano students, who were the children of family friends, and discovered a love and rather natural knack for teaching.

Within a year, Isaac had a private school of over 40 students, whom he prepared for exams, shows, auditions, and also for national competitions where they always placed extremely well. He held regular recitals and soirees for his students, and lavish gala showcases at the end of every year.

All the while, Isaac juggled his teaching and accompanying load whilst studying his Bachelor of Music full time, which he was accepted into at the unordinary young age of 16. At this time, Isaac was still studying with Catherine, and also completed his Associate Diploma in Music Performance (piano) receiving a pass with distinction. Isaac was the first pianist in 10 years to achieve this grade in South Australia.

Whilst studying and working as a freelancer, Isaac also became Head of Voice and Musical Theatre at a leading dance and performing arts school, that trained young performers for competition, and professional engagements. In this role Isaac oversaw the curriculum, training, and examination pathways and preparation of the musical theatre program, and taught many of the vocal students over Skype.

Isaac filled his [very little] spare time by travelling all around Australia to regional cities and towns, accompanying for Year 12 music exams, AMEB exams, recitals, concerts, auditions, and eisteddfods.

At the end of 2016, Isaac decided he needed a change of scenery, and packed up his life in Adelaide and moved to Melbourne. Not long after touching down in Melbourne, Isaac was appointed as the tenured accompanist and piano teacher at Brighton Grammar School.

During his two year stay at BGS, Isaac continued working as a freelance accompanist, and also as repetiteur at APO Arts Academy, as part of the music theatre faculty.

Now in 2019, Isaac is the accompanist, repetiteur, and piano teacher at Mentone Girls’ Grammar, is still on the faculty as repetiteur at APO, is an accompanist at The Australian Children’s Choir, and runs a private practice in St Kilda East.

In his private studio, Isaac teaches piano, coaches classical and music theatre vocalists, and takes piano students for short periods as part of “Technique Clinic”. This is an opportunity for pianists to come see Isaac, and get help on issues in their technique that need addressing.

Isaac has a huge passion for healthy piano technique, and is a subscriber to the Taubman approach, which is the entire basis of his teaching.

Isaac is currently completing a Graduate Certificate in Music (Piano Pedagogy), and also holds a Professional Performance Diploma in Piano Accompaniment, and a Certificate in Vocal Science.
